Promesse du bonheur is part of an ongoing dialogue between Arnar Ásgeirsson and H. K. Rannversson, that started with the exhibition Disappointing Sculpture at Kunstchlager, Reykjavík in 2013. At Harbinger they contemplate art‘s promise of happiness through images and text that are created under the influence of cocktails and Thai food.
The exhibition is sponsored by The Icelandic Visual Arts Fund, The Icelandic Art Center and produced in collaboration with Ban Thai Restaurant, Reykjavík.
„Now the time had come for a drink, he thought, and all of the sudden a curious cocktail appeared. He stirred his drink with the straw, then another one, and then yet another one. Round and round and the time passed by. The ice cubes melted and the drink became diluted, turning a light yellow, oceanic green, pale red. Meanwhile the dark of night fell over. Soon, the neon lights will turn on – he thought. And when they did he himself turned yellow, blue, red, becoming one with the place. On the wall a red neon sign flashed a slow steady rhythm, in sync with The Curator’s heartbeat, spelling out in big bright letters: Promesse du bonheur.“
