Now is the time to apply to Circolo Scandinavo 2017-2018!
Since February 1st, the application period for Circolo Scandinavo’s next residence year (Oct 2017 – September 2018) has been open! It will remain open until April 1st, but the best idea is to get to work immediately and apply! If you are an artist working in the Nordic countries OR if you are an artist from a Nordic country, you are eligible. What is Circolo Scandinavo? What is an artist?
Circolo Scandinavo is the artist’s residence of the Scandinavian association of Rome, or Skandinaviska föreningens konstnärshus. The residence has been in different places in the centre of Rome since it was founded in 1860, when the three Scandinavian libraries of Rome united and created an artist’s association. Now we find ourselves in the noble Casino Farnese, right next to Palazzo Corsini in Trastevere.
Circolo has five rooms: 4 big and 1 smaller. The rent is 500/400€ per month, and spouses/partners/visitors are allowed for a small fee. Unfortunately, we do not allow children under the age of 14 to live on the premises. We have a small studio especially suitable to visual artists or just space-demanding crafts. We have two pianos, one regular and one electronic. The artist’s share a big kitchen and three bathrooms, as well as one additional toilet. You won’t get hotel service, but the staff consisting of our director and an assistant will help you with any conundrums. Finally, we’ve got an absolutely wonderful roof terrace, where you can relax when the inspiration is absent.
Around 50 Nordic artists (from Iceland, Faroe Islands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland) come to Circolo Scandinavo every year to live, be inspired and work on different projects. Visual artists, photographers, writers, poets, painters, composers – really any kind of creative process can be counted as artistic work, and is thereby eligible for consideration. We’ve had icon painters, film animators, opera directors and sculptors. We’ve had authors of great novels; we’ve had up and coming poets. Everything is possible with a good project plan, so just send us an application and you may just be one of the lucky ones to get a place. Make it good – you are competing with hundreds of others!
